The SSB 05 series shotcrete machine is a device for spraying shotcrete and refractory concrete using both dry and wet methods. The machine operates on the principle of a dosing drum (rotor). The SSB 05 shotcrete machine achieves a theoretical output of 0.25–7.1 m³/h and is designed for small to medium-sized jobs. In the COM-V version, the output is adjusted using a control knob for the continuously variable transmission.
The machine’s main areas of application include the spraying of refractory concrete in the construction of metallurgical and glass furnaces, coking plants, as well as in the metallurgical, chemical and glass industries. It is also used for the repair of concrete structures (e.g. road and railway bridges, retaining walls, cooling towers, water reservoirs, water treatment plants, etc.), in the construction and renovation of buildings, and for reinforcing vaults in tunnels and sewers.
The small drum is used in particular for spraying fine, dry and heavy mixtures (refractory concrete, fine precast mixtures). For spraying concrete using the so-called ‘wet’ method, the MAXI dosing drum (7.9 l) should be used.
The dry mix intended for spraying or transport is fed into the hopper, from where it flows smoothly into the openings of the dosing drum located beneath the hopper (tank). To ensure the dosing drum is filled efficiently with the mix, the machine’s feed hopper is fitted with an air vibrator and a mortar feeder. The rotating drum feeds the mixture towards the upper air duct, through which it is blown out of the individual openings in the drum towards the hoses transporting the mixture. Air is then additionally blown into the transport hoses to assist the smooth flow of the material through them. A spray gun is fitted at the end of the hoses, to which water is supplied to moisten the sprayed mixture. The level of moisture in the mixture is regulated by the spray gun’s water valve.
When spraying the concrete mix using the so-called wet method, the machine’s feed hopper is filled with a pre-prepared wet mix of the same quality and composition as ready-mixed concrete. The mortar is transported through the machine in exactly the same way as with the dry method. The only difference is that, instead of water, a chemical additive that accelerates the setting of the material is fed to the spray nozzle of the gun; this is made possible by an external chemical dosing pump.

*) These are theoretical values. Actual performance depends on the type and composition of the mixture being conveyed, its moisture content, the conveying distance, the volume and pressure of compressed air, and the diameter of the supply hoses.
**) Air consumption figures are approximate only and depend on the machine’s current output, the transport distance and the diameter of the supply hoses.
